The Atomic Sentence Method For AI Powered Academic Writing

AI Atomic Sentences For Academic Writing

Dear Scholar,

My core approach to research involves breaking complex ideas down into atomic statements (or notes) and then creatively finding new connections to form new ideas. This method also works for academic writing, and it helped me to write my last paper in record time!

In today's brief tutorial, I will share with you an AI assistant (prompt and link included) that breaks down complex papers into concise, simple sentences. These atomic sentences are then arranged in a mind map to create an overview of a topic and recombined into your next paper.

I found this method incredibly powerful, especially for writing the introduction section. You start with a few relevant papers. From these, an AI assistant extracts dozens of short, factual sentences with references. Finally, you use a mind map to craft a new narrative from these "atomic sentences". It's very easy to use, has no hallucinations and gives you complete control of your paper while leveraging AI.

Course on Academic Writing With AI

A few months ago, I hosted a workshop on using AI for academic writing - it quickly became one of my most popular webinars. The recording has been broken down into chapters and annotated with additional information to create a course on academic writing. Check out if academic writing isn't your favourite part of research and you want to leverage AI.

The workshop is approximately 3 hours long and covers an effective workflow that combines multiple AI tools to make writing your next paper faster, easier and better.

Free 3-week course on digital note-taking and project management

The foundation for being an effortless academic is digital note-taking. Without digital notes, you can't extend your mind with an infinite storage capacity, include AI, or globally search your knowledge.

When I switched to digital notes, it felt like switching from rowing in a boat to installing a sail and having the wind move me faster and farther than ever before in terms of academic productivity. Learning and coming up with new ideas felt effortless - This is what gave birth to the "Effortless Academic" name.

Over the last weeks, I have crafted a 21-day course that will teach you the basics of digital note-taking and academic project management. It encompasses everything I have learned over the past three years of experimenting with digital notes as an academic, and two long video tours at the end of each chapter.

Click the button below to subscribe to the free 21-day email course. You will receive an email from me every day with a new concept or idea, along with some homework to help you get started.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Ilya Shabanov, The Effortless Academic

Updates to The 3 Core Tools For Literature Search Dear Scholar, If you have been following me for a while, you might have heard of the "AI search loop." Given a question, this method is a thorough yet rapid way to find relevant scientific literature. Today's newsletter covers recent updates to all involved tools. Most interestingly, Google Scholar is now becoming an alternative to pricy AI tools. (See below what it means for the big picture.) Here's how the search loop works: Based on a...

Dear Reader, Last week, I made a post on using AI for academic writing, which enraged the community like nothing I have ever written. 4 Million views & about 400 hate comments. A dozen people even took the time to reach out to the dean of my university & my supervisors (yet none to me personally). I don't think even 1% read past the hook ("I wrote 4000 words for my thesis with AI") and ignored that the basis for the entire process were my own papers, the workflow included deep-reading &...

Obsidian Bases for Idea Generation Dear Reader, Generating new ideas is the currency in academia: The more impactful your ideas, the more impactful your research, and the better your chances of success. But what are ideas? Ideas are connections between two related concepts. For instance, if someone finds a link between a vegetarian diet and hip fracture rates, that's novel and vital research that could improve people's lives. But these two concepts are not necessarily related. Nutritionists...
