Tutorial: Integrate ChatGPT into Your Notes with Two AI Plugins

Dear Scholar,

This week’s newsletter gives you a taste of the future of academic research: AI-powered note-taking in Obsidian. Imagine having ChatGPT seamlessly integrated into your vault—helping you search, refine, and generate insights effortlessly from notes and PDFs!

Imagine finding any note from a vague description, gathering all your notes on specific topics in seconds, and adding the entire world's knowledge to the synthesis process on the fly. It might be the beginning of a massive change that will free academics from publishing, just like the book press removed the tedium of creating books or the internet removed the tedium of distributing them (more info on this idea). The best idea might be all it takes to succeed in academia in the future.

The key is two plugins called SmartConnections and CoPilot, one for quick semantic searches across the vault and the other for deep, ChatGPT-powered conversations and tasks. In this week's tutorial, learn how to install, configure, and use these plugins. You will also hear about these in more detail in the upcoming webinar!

Webinar: Effortless Writing with AI • Feb 22nd

Last week, I announced a webinar that changed my writing process, enabling me to write a paper ~3 days. The key is to start with notes and use multiple AI shortcuts to get to the manuscript quickly and effortlessly, catching mistakes before they arise and avoiding staring at a blank sheet.
It worked so well that all three co-authors accepted the manuscript with close to no comments. Click on the image for more information:

Who is this webinar for?

Anyone who needs to write a paper or thesis from ideas/PDFs gathered over months but feels stuck due to lack of organization, lack of time, feeling overwhelmed or procrastinating. And all who just want to publish faster and have too little time but too many ideas!

Is this a re-run of a previous webinar?
No - everything in this one will be new.

Will there be a recording?
Yes, it will be available around Feb 25th, with additional resources & annotations.

Is this primarily for students?
Not at all. Currently, the participants are ~30% professors, ~40% have a PhD, and ~28% are graduate students. 25% never published a paper and 41% published more than 5. Everyone who needs to write a thesis or a paper will benefit from the ideas presented in this webinar.

Dear Scholar, I am currently conducting very data-intensive research that involves records from thousands of forest plots and measurements of millions of individual trees conducted over 50 years in New Zealand. A lot of data to analyze and find out how forests are changing. This massive data collection is aggregated from many sources, then cleaned, arranged, combined, filtered, recombined, processed, transformed, recleaned, and rearranged again. A very messy process that far surpasses the...

Dear Scholar, When doing innovative research, you need to do a lot of reading, looking for a tiny grain of insight or a gap that fits your research perfectly and allows you to identify new publishable insight. Most of what you read, though, is not strictly relevant. Looking for important, impactful questions can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. A new tool we are reviewing this week promises to help you find that needle using AI: Anara.com. Anara can combine insights from dozens...
