How I made ChatGPT write in the style of a famous scientist

Dear Scholar,

One of the most frequently asked questions folks asked me in my last webinar on academic writing was how to make ChatGPT sound like you, instead of the generic robotic text it often generates.

Since we didn't have time to discuss details, I wrote an in-depth blog post and created a ChatGPT bot that sounds like Nathan Swenson, an ecologist I admire and read a lot. You can even put this to a test and have a conversation with my academic writing bot, which I updated for this article. Here is how this works:

The idea is to create a "style blueprint," a terse paragraph that describes precisely the attributes of your writing. What goes into the paragraph depends on your use case, and I provide 30 attributes to choose from when creating your blueprint in the article. The blueprint is itself made with the help of AI and text examples. All prompts are provided in the article to replicate this.

Free Conference on AI use in Academia

If you missed it in my last email, I would like to invite you to this upcoming event with great speakers, sponsored by Litmaps, the only tool aside from ChatGPT, I recommend you use for your research. The wonderfully knowledgeable Marina will teach you in-depth use cases for Litmaps, and four other speakers, including me, will speak on various topics related to AI in academia (see picture).

Drop in, it's free and you're going to learn new things to help with your career.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Tool Review: Consensus 2026 for Lit Reviews & Writing Phase Dear Reader, Academics who use AI for academic writing typically fall into two camps: Those who try to do too much at once, generating whole paragraphs, and those who only occasionally ask for small corrections. One is ethically questionable and produces poor-quality output, while the other leaves a lot of potential on the table. Both require a lot of manual editing and don't make you all that much more productive. Having tried both...
